Why pitch reports matter
The pitch report is the most underused tool in fantasy cricket. Most users read form and fixture but skip the pitch report, then wonder why their XI underperformed. The pitch shapes the expected scoring rate and the value of pace vs spin. Skipping it is leaving points on the table.
What the words mean
Pitch reports use a standard vocabulary. Three terms matter most:
- Green track. Moisture on the pitch, helps seam and swing bowlers early. Pacers dominate the powerplay; batters struggle against the new ball.
- Dry track. Dry surface, helps spin bowlers in the middle overs. Spinners dominate; batters struggle to score against turn.
- Flat track. True bounce, no major help for bowlers. Batters dominate; expected scoring rate is high.
How to translate the read into picks
Once you have read the pitch report, translate it into captain pick and role balance:
- Green track. Captain a frontline pacer; pick 3-4 pace bowlers; reduce spin picks.
- Dry track. Captain a frontline spinner; pick 3-4 spin bowlers; reduce pace picks.
- Flat track. Captain a top-order batter; pick 3-4 frontline batters; balance the XI around the run-scoring expected.
